Sinan Çetin — Biography

Sinan Çetin (born 1 March 1953 in Bahçesaray, Van) is a Turkish film director, producer, screenwriter and actor. The Azerbaijani Wikipedia describes him as being of Azerbaijani descent. He studied art history at Hacettepe University and, during the 1970s, worked as a painter, photographer and graphic designer, holding exhibitions of his own.

He entered cinema in 1975 as an assistant to Zeki Ökten on Hanzo, later working with Şerif Gören and Atıf Yılmaz, and moved to directing with Bir Günün Hikâyesi (1980). His films include Çiçek Abbas (1982), Berlin in Berlin (1993), Bay E (1995), Propaganda (1999), Commissar Shakespeare (2000), Banka and Romantik (2002), Kağıt (2010), Çanakkale Çocukları (2012), and both İstasyon and Amerikalı Kız (2018). He won the best director award at the 12th Dhaka International Film Festival.

As the German Wikipedia puts it, his career began with ambitious milieu films and moved steadily towards the mainstream. Through his company Plato Film he produced his own series and shows as well as the work of many other directors. He is married to the German cinematographer Rebekka Haas.
