Dario Moreno — Biography
Dario Moreno, born David Arugete near İzmir on 3 April 1921 to a Sephardic Jewish family, died in Istanbul on 1 December 1968. A multilingual performer, he sang, composed, wrote lyrics, and played both guitar and piano, alongside an acting career in film. He built his greatest fame through a career centred in France during the 1950s and 1960s, taking operetta roles and recording Latin-flavoured songs. His 1961 recording "Brigitte Bardot" brought him wide recognition, and he received a record industry prize for his output. His film credits include Poison Ivy, Candide, La Femme et le Pantin, and Tintin and the Golden Fleece. In his native İzmir he is still commemorated today with annual events and a street bearing his name.
