Le bon roi Dagobert

Le bon roi Dagobert is a 1963 French comedy film directed by Pierre Chevalier, from a screenplay by Raymond Castans and Jean Manse. Running about 95 minutes, it offers a light-hearted historical farce built around the Merovingian king Dagobert, a figure also remembered through an old French folk song. The cast is led by Fernandel, one of the most popular comic actors in French cinema, alongside Italian star Gino Cervi, with supporting performances from Jacques Dufilho, Dario Moreno, Darry Cowl, Michel Galabru and Dominique Zardi. The film plays on the rivalry between the king and his adviser Saint Eloi and on palace scheming, in the style of French popular comedy of the period.
