Wentworth Miller — Biography

Wentworth Earl Miller III was born on 2 June 1972 in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire, England, to American parents; his lawyer father, who was studying at Oxford on a Rhodes Scholarship at the time, was of African-American and Jamaican descent, and his mother, a special-education teacher, had mixed European and Middle Eastern ancestry. The family moved to Brooklyn when he was a year old, and he graduated from Princeton University with a degree in English in 1995. He made his television debut with a small role on Buffy the Vampire Slayer in 1998, took his first starring role in the miniseries Dinotopia in 2002, and played the younger version of Anthony Hopkins's character in The Human Stain in 2003. He became widely known as Michael Scofield on Fox's Prison Break, earning a Golden Globe nomination for the role in 2005, the same year he made brief appearances in two Mariah Carey music videos. Writing under the pseudonym Ted Foulke, he made his screenwriting debut with Stoker (2013), and from 2014 to 2017 he played Leonard Snart, or Captain Cold, on The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow. He came out as gay in 2013, said in 2020 that he no longer wished to play straight characters and would not join a sixth season of Prison Break, and disclosed in 2021 that he had been diagnosed with autism.
