Zephyr (Zefir)

Zefir is a 2010 Turkish drama and the feature debut of director Belma Baş, who also wrote the screenplay. Named after its headstrong eleven-year-old heroine, the film was shot in the summer of 2009 on the Çambaşı highland in Ordu, with local people joining the cast; Cem Yılmaz is among its co-producers.

Zefir spends her summer holiday with her grandparents at a mountain house in the Eastern Black Sea highlands, waiting all season for her mother. When her mother finally arrives, it is not to take the girl with her but to say goodbye before setting off on a long journey. Premiering at the 35th Toronto International Film Festival and selected for the 47th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, the film is a thematic follow-up to Baş's short film Poyraz and earned her the Best Screenplay award at the International Istanbul Film Festival.
