The Year 01

The Year 01 (French: L'An 01) is a 1973 French comedy film directed by Jacques Doillon. It adapts Gébé's comic strip of the same name, which had grown through suggestions sent in by readers while it was serialized in Politique Hebdo and later Charlie Hebdo. Emblematic of the libertarian protest spirit of the 1970s, the film touches on themes such as ecology, the rejection of authority, free love, communal living, and the refusal of private property and work. The cast includes Christian Clavier, Coluche and Jacques Higelin, with appearances by the likes of Daniel Auteuil and Gérard Depardieu. Over the years it has come to be regarded as a cult film.
