The Common Man

Dupont Lajoie, released internationally as The Common Man, is a French drama directed by Yves Boisset. Made in 1974 and released in 1975, it stars Jean Carmet in the leading role, with a cast that also includes Isabelle Huppert, Jean-Pierre Marielle, Jacques Villeret and Jean Bouise. The screenplay was written by Jean-Pierre Bastid together with Boisset. The film competed at the 25th Berlin International Film Festival, where it received the Silver Bear Special Jury Prize. It was distributed in the United States under the title Rape of Innocence and in Germany as Monsieur Dupont. In the same year, Bastid and Michel Martens adapted the story into a novel bearing the same title.
