Tempest
Tempest (La tempesta) is a 1958 Italian-French-Yugoslav co-production directed by Alberto Lattuada, blending drama and adventure. The film adapts Alexander Pushkin's 1836 novel The Captain's Daughter; the screenplay was written by Lattuada together with Ivo Perilli, Michael Wilson and Louis Peterson, with music by Piero Piccioni. Produced by Lux Film, it was first released in Italy on 1 December 1958.
The story unfolds in the 18th-century Russian Empire during the Pugachev Rebellion, following a young officer caught between love, loyalty and survival. The cast is led by Silvana Mangano, Van Heflin, Viveca Lindfors and Geoffrey Horne, alongside performers such as Vittorio Gassman, Agnes Moorehead and Oskar Homolka. Lattuada received the David di Donatello Award for Best Director for this film.
