In July (Temmuz'da)

In July (German: Im Juli) is a 2000 Germany-Turkey-Hungary co-production written and directed by Fatih Akın. Blending road movie, comedy and romance, it follows a journey from Hamburg to Istanbul set around the 1999 solar eclipse. The film stars Moritz Bleibtreu, Christiane Paul, İdil Üner and Mehmet Kurtuluş.

The story begins when Daniel, an introverted physics teacher, buys a ring from street vendor Juli, who tells him he will soon find the love of his life. That same night he falls for Melek, a young Turkish woman, and decides to follow her to Turkey; the hitchhiker he picks up turns out to be Juli, who is secretly in love with him. On this trip from Hamburg to the Bosphorus, the two young people discover themselves and each other. Bleibtreu won a German Film Award for his performance, and the film received the audience award at the Tromsø International Film Festival.
