The Sultan's Secret is a 2010 Turkish action film. Directed by Hakan Şahin, the screenplay was written by historian and journalist Ömer Erbil. The production was realized with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture Agency. The film was released nationwide in Turkey on December 17, 2010, and its premiere was held in Istanbul earlier that month with the participation of star actor Mark Dacascos.
The story follows an American professor who arrives in modern-day Istanbul in search of a mysterious chest dating back to the reign of Sultan Abdul Hamid II. Believed to be connected to current political power struggles over oil, the professor's pursuit leads him to the long-forgotten underground passages of Topkapi Palace. This quest brings him into conflict with a patriotic museum director and Turkish intelligence, uncovering conspiracies stretching back to the final years of the Ottoman Empire, World War I, and the Gulf Wars.
Filming took place in historical locations such as Topkapi Palace, Hagia Sophia, Yıldız Palace, and the Istanbul Archaeological Museums. The cast includes names such as Şerif Sezer, Sinan Albayrak, and Zeynep Beşerler.
