Sayonara Jupiter

Bye-Bye Jupiter (Sayonara Jupiter) is a 1984 Japanese science fiction and adventure film directed by Koji Hashimoto and Sakyo Komatsu, with Komatsu also writing the screenplay and co-producing. Komatsu had novelized an early draft of the story two years before the film's release, and that novel won the 1983 Seiun Award.

Set in the year 2125, when humanity has spread across the Solar System, the story follows chief engineer Eiji Honda, who leads a project to turn Jupiter into a star to solve the colonies' energy crisis, while mysterious markings on Mars and a black hole approaching the Sun alter the fate of the entire system. The film marked Akihiko Hirata's final screen appearance and is notable as the first Japanese production to employ computer-generated imagery for its visual effects.
