The Story of a Poor Young Man (Italian: Romanzo di un giovane povero) is a 1995 Italian drama film directed by Ettore Scola, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Giacomo Scarpelli. The picture stars veteran actor Alberto Sordi alongside Isabella Ferrari, with Rolando Ravello and André Dussollier among the supporting cast. It was selected to compete at the 52nd Venice International Film Festival, where Isabella Ferrari received the Volpi Cup for best supporting actress. Sordi's leading performance was likewise recognized when he won the Grolla d'oro for best actor in 1995. Running roughly two hours, the film belongs to Scola's later body of work and drew attention chiefly for the strength of its acting, earning its two principal performers some of the most notable honors of their careers.
