Recep İvedik
Recep İvedik is a Turkish comedy film released on February 22, 2008 in 230 copies. It was adapted for the big screen after the title character, created by Şahan Gökbakar for his television show Dikkat Şahan Çıkabilir (2005-2006), became hugely popular. Directed by Togan Gökbakar and written by Şahan Gökbakar together with Serkan Altuniğne, the film was shot in Istanbul and Antalya. Watched by 791,536 people in its first three days, it ranked among the strongest openings of its era and became the highest-grossing Turkish film of 2008.
The story follows Recep, an unemployed and ill-mannered man who finds a lost wallet and travels from Istanbul to Antalya to return it to its owner, hotelier Muhsin Bey. At the hotel he runs into his childhood sweetheart Sibel, who does not remember him, and decides to stay in order to win her over. Starring Şahan Gökbakar alongside Fatma Toptaş and Tuluğ Çizgen, the film's box office success launched a long-running series of sequels.
