A petty theft at a school spirals into mistrust, denunciation and ostracism in The Teachers' Lounge (Das Lehrerzimmer), a tense 2023 German school drama told through the eyes of a well-meaning teacher. Its director, the German filmmaker of Turkish origin İlker Çatak, co-wrote it with Johannes Duncker, and Arte and ZDF were among the producers.

Leonie Benesch plays Carla Nowak, a maths and gym teacher new both to the school and to the profession. When she realises thefts are happening there, she investigates with her idealism intact and meets incomprehension among colleagues, parents and pupils. The school applies a "zero tolerance" policy, and when the prime suspect turns out to be the mother of her student Oskar, Carla begins to see that her ideals sit poorly with reality.

It premiered on 18 February 2023 in the Panorama section of the 73rd Berlin Film Festival to a very positive reception, reached German cinemas in early May and Turkish ones on 2 February 2024. It won five German Film Awards, including best film, direction, screenplay, editing and lead actress (Benesch). The National Board of Review named it a top five international film of the year, and as Germany's entry it was nominated for Best International Feature at the 96th Academy Awards.
