My Life Is Hell

My Life Is Hell (Ma vie est un enfer) is a 1991 French comedy film written and directed by Josiane Balasko, who also stars. The story follows Leah Lemonnier, a depressed and deeply insecure woman who feels invisible in her own life. In desperation she summons a demon, and a devil named Abargadon appears, offering to grant her wishes in exchange for her soul. Leah uses her wishes to transform herself into a beautiful, seductive woman, but each wish produces unforeseen complications, while the demon grows increasingly impatient to collect his payment. Blending fantasy and satire, the film pokes fun at vanity, desire and self-image as Leah's bargain spirals out of control. The cast also includes Daniel Auteuil and Michael Lonsdale.
