Bloodsport (Kansporu)

Bloodsport is a 1988 American martial arts action film directed by Newt Arnold from a screenplay by Sheldon Lettich and Christopher Cosby. Produced by Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus for Cannon Films, it was released on February 26, 1988.

The story follows Frank Dux, a US Army captain trained in ninjutsu since childhood, who deserts his unit to compete in the Kumite, a secretive, no-holds-barred and potentially deadly fighting tournament held in Hong Kong every five years. While government agents hunt him down, Dux battles his way toward a showdown with the undefeated champion Chong Li. The screenplay is based on Frank Dux's own accounts, which were later largely disputed.

Jean-Claude Van Damme stars in his first major leading role, alongside Bolo Yeung, Donald Gibb, Leah Ayres, Roy Chiao, Norman Burton, Forest Whitaker and Cihangir Gaffari. Made on a budget of roughly $1.5 million, the film became a major box office success, launched Van Damme as an action star and came to be regarded as a cult classic.
