Not Worth a Fig (İncir Çekirdeği)

Movie · 2009 · 3 people

Not Worth a Fig (İncir Çekirdeği) is a 2009 Turkish drama film written and directed by Selda Çiçek, marking her feature-length debut. Shot in Mardin in 2008, it opened nationwide in Turkey on November 6, 2009 and was selected for the 16th London Turkish Film Festival.

Based on a true story, the film follows a single day in the life of a family from Mardin. Seven years earlier, their son Celil, just back from military service, stepped on a landmine during a picnic and died; his sister Delal, blaming herself, later committed suicide. Heda (Özgü Namal) has since been married off to her late sister's husband Nazif and is raising their little daughter. Through the metaphor of a fig seed, the film questions how little value is placed on human life.
