Fabiola

Fabiola is a 1949 French-Italian historical drama directed by Alessandro Blasetti, released in the United Kingdom as The Fighting Gladiator. A sword-and-sandal picture, it is very loosely adapted from Cardinal Nicholas Patrick Wiseman's 1854 novel of the same name and unfolds in the Roman Empire of the 4th century, when Christianity was beginning to spread.

The Italian-language production stars Michèle Morgan, Henri Vidal and Michel Simon, supported by performers such as Massimo Girotti, Gino Cervi, Elisa Cegani and Rina Morelli. Running roughly 164 minutes, the film earned just over one million dollars at the American box office in 1951. An unofficial remake, The Revolt of the Slaves starring Lang Jeffries and Rhonda Fleming, followed in 1960.
