Dogville Confessions

Dogville Confessions is a Danish documentary film of roughly 56 minutes that reached audiences in 2003. Directed and written by Sami Saif, it records the making of Lars von Trier's controversial feature Dogville from behind the scenes.

With a camera present on the set, the documentary gathers candid reflections from cast and crew about their working experience, their relationship with the director, and the demanding conditions of the shoot. Members of the large ensemble, including Nicole Kidman, Lauren Bacall, Paul Bettany, Chloë Sevigny, John Hurt, Stellan Skarsgård and Ben Gazzara, share their thoughts on camera, as does von Trier himself. In this sense the film proposes that the way to understand a work is to listen to the people who created it.

Recorded under the documentary and drama genres, the production also features Jean-Marc Barr and Udo Kier. It stands out among early-2000s Danish cinema productions as a making-of documentary.
