Tanju Gürsu — Biography

Tanju Gürsu (October 27, 1938, Trabzon - June 7, 2016, Istanbul) was a Turkish actor, screenwriter, director and producer who became one of the leading men of Yeşilçam cinema during the 1960s and 1970s. After leaving law school in Istanbul, he entered the film industry in 1962 after winning a competition held by a cinema magazine.

Over a career spanning more than four decades, he appeared in over sixty films and television series, becoming a familiar face of Turkish popular cinema through productions such as "Duvarların Ötesi" (1964), "Haremde Dört Kadın" (1965), "Üç Korkusuz Arkadaş" (1966), "Fosforlu Cevriyem" (1969) and "Vahşi Gelin" (1978), and co-starring in several films alongside Türkan Şoray. Beyond acting, he moved into production, co-founding the company Anıt Film with Özden Çelik, and also worked as a director on films such as "Erkek Kazım" and "Kazım'a Bak Kazım'a."

Having battled Alzheimer's disease in his final years, Gürsu died of respiratory failure in Istanbul on June 7, 2016.
