Maryam Zaree — Biography
Maryam Zaree was born on 22 July 1983 in Tehran, inside Evin Prison where her mother was held as a political prisoner, and the family emigrated to Germany soon afterward. The Iranian-German actress, director and screenwriter appeared in several European productions and became known in Germany for her lead role in Burhan Qurbani's Shahada. Her performance in the series 4 Blocks brought her the 2018 Grimme Award. In 2019 she made her directing debut with the documentary Born in Evin, which explores her own birth and her mother's imprisonment; the film went on to win the 2020 German Film Award for best documentary.
