Johan Heldenbergh — Biography

Johan Heldenbergh, born on 11 May 1967 in Wilrijk, is a Belgian stage and screen actor who also writes plays and screenplays and directs theatre. He wrote the stage play behind The Broken Circle Breakdown and took its leading role on screen; the film won the Panorama Audience Award at the 2013 Berlin Film Festival and earned him a European Film Award nomination for Best Actor. His other screen credits include Moscow, Belgium and A Day in a Life, plus a part in The Misfortunates and, later, in The Zookeeper’s Wife. He also played Colonel Karremans in the Bosnian War drama Quo Vadis, Aida?, and has appeared in Belgica, The Brand New Testament and Amal.
