Haluk Piyes — Biography

Haluk Piyes, also known internationally as Luk Piyes (born 30 March 1975 in Cologne), is a German-Turkish actor, director and screenwriter. Born in Cologne to a family that had emigrated to Germany in the 1970s, he took his first theatre courses in primary school, encouraged by a Turkish literature teacher.

Alongside law studies he trained in theatre and film, spending three years at the AFI in Los Angeles studying screenwriting and directing, and training as an actor at the Actors Studio in New York. He became widely known with the 2000 film Kanak Attack.

His notable screen credits include O da Beni Seviyor (2001), directed by Barış Pirhasan, Pars: Kiraz Operasyonu (2006), Mülteci (2007), Bizim Hikaye (2015) and Ateş (2016). Also active behind the camera as a director and writer, he is regarded as a figure bridging German and Turkish cinema.
