Gülistan Güzey — Biography

Gülistan Güzey was born on 17 May 1927 in Istanbul and died there on 6 March 1987. She began her artistic career in 1942 after answering a newspaper advertisement and joining the Istanbul City Theatre, and by the 1940s she had also started appearing in films, going on to take leading roles in a number of productions. Over the course of her career she appeared in films including Köroğlu, Sonsuz Acı, Çakırcalı Mehmet Efe and Allaha Ismarladık. In her personal life she married journalist Ümit Deniz, later divorcing him, and subsequently married filmmaker Kamil Cemali. Active in both theatre and film for more than three decades, Güzey remained one of the notable actresses of Turkish cinema during her lifetime.
