Neriman Köksal — Biography

Neriman Köksal (born Hatice Kökçü; 17 March 1928, Istanbul – 23 October 1999, Istanbul) was one of the best-known actresses of Turkish cinema and also worked as a singer.

Reportedly discovered while walking in Beyoğlu, she made her screen debut in Çete (1950) and went on to appear in films such as Çalsın Sazlar, Oynasın Kızlar (1953), They Paid With Their Blood (1955) and Şeyh Ahmet'in Gözdesi (1955). Widely regarded as Yeşilçam's first and longest-serving "vamp", she became known by the nickname "Fosforlu" after her role in Fosforlu Cevriye (1959).

She appeared in well over a hundred films, among them We Are Not Alone (1964), Lafını Balla Kestim (1965), The Ruby-Eyed Cat (1966) and Süpermenler (1979). From the 1980s she moved largely into character and mother roles, and in the 1990s she turned up in television series such as Bizim Mahalle. Film databases credit her with far more than a hundred acting credits in all.
