Gül Onat — Biography

Gül Onat is a theatre and television actress who won the affection of children as Perihan in Sihirli Annem and has been on stage for more than forty years. She reached a wide audience as Safiye in İkinci Bahar (1998), and consolidated her place on television as İkbal Ilgaz in Lale Devri and Yer Gök Aşk. In May 2026 she received the Honour Award from Yeni Tiyatro.

She studied at the Ankara State Conservatory and also took acting lessons from Yıldız Kenter. She stepped in front of the camera in 1975 in the film Sefer Seferde and in 1990 played Haşmet's ex-wife in Aşk Filmlerinin Unutulmaz Yönetmeni. Her television career opened with Şehnaz Tango (1994, as Nilgün); in İkinci Bahar she was in the cast alongside Türkan Şoray and Şener Şen, who shared the leads. In the early 2000s she worked in the series Eyvah Kızım Büyüdü (Gülizar), Çarli İş Başında (Cazgül), Çifte Bela (Kezban) and Kibar Ana. Sihirli Annem, which aired from 2003 to 2011, made her name known to the widest audience.

In the following years she acted in the series Adanalı (Ballı Bacı), Gece Gündüz (Neriman Atakan), Kaderimin Yazıldığı Gün (Kıymet Yörükhan), Hangimiz Sevmedik (Adile Çam) and Klavye Delikanlıları (Semiha Topuz); in 2015 she played Kerime Badem in the film Köstebekgiller: Perili Orman. In 2025 she returned as Perihan in the film Sihirli Annem: Hepimiz Biriz and played Gülsima in Sustalı Ceylan. Besides television she continues to work on stage with the Bakırköy Municipal Theatres. In 1977 she married a theatre artist; she has a son.
