Gül Onat — Biography

Gül Onat was born on 24 November 1953 in Ankara to Ferhan Onat and Doğan Onat. After training at the Ankara State Conservatory, she made her film debut in 1975 in Sefer Seferde and played Nilgün in the series Şehnaz Tango in 1994. She reached a wide audience as Safiye in İkinci Bahar (1998), written by Sulhi Dölek and starring Türkan Şoray and Şener Şen. Between 2003 and 2011 she became a favorite of children as 'Perihan Teyze' in Sihirli Annem, and later played İkbal Ilgaz in Lale Devri and Yer Gök Aşk (2010-2013), Kerime Badem in Köstebekgiller: Perili Orman (2015), and Semiha Topuz in Klavye Delikanlıları (2017). She has continued to perform on stage with the Bakırköy Municipal Theatres, and appeared in 2025 in Fer, Sihirli Annem: Hepimiz Biriz and Sustalı Ceylan. She married theatre director Mehmet Birkiye in 1977 and has a son, Onat. Diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2024, she shared details of her treatment, surgeries and chemotherapy with the public during 2025 and 2026, and received the Yeni Tiyatro Honor Award in May 2026.
