Cristina Flutur — Biography

Born in Iași, Romania, in 1978, Cristina Flutur spent years working in theatre before turning to film, appearing on the stage of the Radu Stanca National Theatre in Sibiu and touring abroad with its ensemble. Her career turning point came with director Cristian Mungiu's 2012 drama Beyond the Hills (După dealuri), in which she played Alina Ringhiş; the role earned her the Best Actress award at that year's Cannes Film Festival.

Following Cannes, Flutur went on to take roles in a string of international productions, including Raisa (2015), Grain — shot in Konya and premiered in Sarajevo — and Hawaii (both 2017), Thou Shalt Not Kill (2018), Carturan (2019) and Guests in a Villa (2020). She continued her film career into 2022 with A Woman, starring alongside Sophie Marceau.
