Beyond the Hills (După dealuri)

După dealuri (internationally released as Beyond the Hills) is a 2012 Romanian-French-Belgian drama co-production written and directed by Cristian Mungiu. Based on the non-fiction books of Tatiana Niculescu Bran, it draws on the real 2005 exorcism case at the Tanacu monastery in Vaslui County, and was filmed in Câmpina, Prahova County.

The story follows the reunion of two young women, Alina and Voichița, who grew up together in an orphanage. One has taken refuge in an Eastern Orthodox convent, while the other intends to take her friend away and start a new life with her. Cosmina Stratan and Cristina Flutur star in the leading roles. Premiering in competition at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, the film earned Mungiu the Best Screenplay award, while the two actresses shared the Best Actress prize. It was also selected as Romania's entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 85th Academy Awards, where it reached the shortlist.
