Ayça Damgacı — Biography
Born on 29 July 1973 in Istanbul, Ayça Damgacı originally intended to study economics before turning to acting. After training at the Şahika Tekand Acting and Art Studio, she graduated from the Theatre Studies department of Istanbul University's Faculty of Letters, joined the Tiyatro Oyunevi ensemble, and for a time performed as a soloist with the band Göçebe Şarkılar.
She first drew wide attention with the 2008 film Gitmek: My Marlon and Brando, a project she wrote based on her own experiences and in which she also starred, winning the Best Actress award at the Sarajevo Film Festival. She has since appeared in films including Unutma Beni İstanbul, 72. Koğuş, and Yozgat Blues.
On television, Damgacı played Hatçik in Star TV's Aramızda Kalsın between 2013 and 2015, took part in O Hayat Benim in 2015-2016, and from 2018 reached a broad audience as Hasret in the series Avlu, which later became available on Netflix. In 2020 she received the Zeliş Deniz Queer Cinema Award.
