Vladimir Samoylov — Biography
Vladimir Yakovlevich Samoilov was born on 15 March 1924 in Odessa and, after training at the Odessa School of Theatre Arts, became one of the leading figures of Soviet stage and screen acting. A veteran of the Second World War, he was named People's Artist of the USSR in 1984 and received the Stanislavsky State Prize in 1972 along with two USSR State Prizes, in 1976 and 1986. His screen roles included the war epic Liberation, the part of Pavel Batartsev in Bonus, and revolutionary leader Nikolay Podvoisky in The Sixth of July. Vladimir Samoilov died in Moscow on 8 September 1999.
