Yunan (film, 2025)

Yunan is a 2025 drama film written and directed by Syrian filmmaker Ameer Fakher Eldin. It follows an exiled Arab author who travels to a remote island in Germany's North Sea intending to take his own life. There, the kindness of the elderly woman who runs the island's hotel offers him unexpected hope and gradually restores his will to live. An international co-production between Germany, Canada and Italy, the film is the second installment of the director's planned Homeland trilogy, following his acclaimed 2021 feature Al Garib (The Stranger); a third part is already in development. Yunan premiered on 19 February 2025 at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival, where it competed for the Golden Bear. The cast includes Hanna Schygulla, Sibel Kekilli and Ali Süleyman.
