Wild Horse (Yılkı Atı) (translated)
Yılkı Atı ("The Wild Horse") is a Turkish television series broadcast on TRT in 1974. Adapted for the screen from Abbas Sayar's novel of the same name, the single-season production was directed by Ünal Küpeli and Hüseyin Karakaş and produced by TRT.
The story follows a bay mare that, having grown too old to work, is turned loose by her owner as a "yılkı" horse — in effect abandoned to hunger and death in the wild. Surviving a harsh winter in the mountains and desolate valleys, fighting off wolves and enduring alongside other free-roaming horses, the mare returns to the village in spring. Just as her owner İbrahim rejoices at recovering her in good health, she flees back to the mountains taking her foal with her; İbrahim and his son Mustafa give chase but never catch her again, and the tale closes as a parable about the price of ingratitude.
