Violent Rome

Violent Rome (Roma violenta) is a 1975 Italian poliziottesco directed by Marino Girolami. The story follows Commissioner Betti, a police officer hardened after losing his brother in a deadly robbery, who dedicates himself to an uncompromising fight against crime. When a young man is shot dead on a bus in the city center shortly afterward, his old trauma resurfaces. Determined to punish the guilty without delay, Betti resorts to increasingly brutal methods that ultimately cost him his badge. Dismissed from the force, he joins a committee of vigilante citizens who share his anger at the impunity criminals enjoy. A major box-office success in Italy, the film launched Maurizio Merli's career and opened the Commissioner Betti trilogy, which continued with two further installments released in 1976. Richard Conte also appears among the cast.
