The Skin

The Skin (La pelle) is a 1981 Italian-French war drama directed by Liliana Cavani. Adapted from Curzio Malaparte's 1949 autobiographical novel of the same name, the film stars Marcello Mastroianni, Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale, Ken Marshall and Carlo Giuffré. Cavani co-wrote the screenplay with Robert Katz, drawing on Malaparte's celebrated account of wartime Italy. The film was selected for competition at the 1981 Cannes Film Festival, where it contended for the Palme d'Or.
