The Man Who Haunted Himself

In this 1970 British psychological thriller, Roger Moore plays Harold Pelham, a conventional businessman whose orderly existence unravels after he survives a serious car accident. Strangers begin greeting him as an old friend, he is reported in places he has never visited, and decisions are made in his name without his knowledge. Pelham gradually realizes that an exact double of himself is moving through his life, taking over his work, his friendships and even his marriage. The film was adapted from Anthony Armstrong's 1957 novel The Strange Case of Mr Pelham and plays as a modern variation on the Jekyll and Hyde theme. Basil Dearden directed and co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Relph and Bryan Forbes; it proved to be Dearden's final film before his death in 1971. The supporting cast includes Olga Georges-Picot and Kevork Malikyan.
