Place Vendôme (film)

Place Vendôme is a 1998 French crime drama directed by Nicole Garcia, named after the Paris square at the center of the city's jewelry trade. The story follows Marianne Malivert (Catherine Deneuve), a woman struggling with alcoholism who is forced to take over her prestigious jewelry shop after her husband Eric's suicide leaves the business on the verge of bankruptcy. As she attempts to sell a set of diamonds of uncertain origin, she finds herself confronting both the stones' rightful owners and a notorious swindler tied to her distant past. The supporting cast includes Jean-Pierre Bacri, Jacques Dutronc, Emmanuelle Seigner and François Berléand. The film earned twelve César Award nominations and competed for the Golden Lion at the 1998 Venice Film Festival, where Deneuve won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress.
