King & Conqueror

King & Conqueror is an eight-episode historical drama miniseries created by Michael Robert Johnson, which premiered on BBC One on 24 August 2025. Starring James Norton as Harold Godwinson and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William, Duke of Normandy, it offers a fictionalised account of the events leading up to the Norman Conquest of England.

Harold of Wessex and William of Normandy begin as allies with no designs on the English throne, but circumstance and personal obsession turn them into rivals destined to meet at the Battle of Hastings in 1066, in a story of intertwined dynasties struggling for power across two countries. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur and Erik Leijonborg from scripts by Johnson and David Mar Stefansson, the UK, US and Icelandic co-production earned praise for its acting while drawing criticism for its pacing and historical inaccuracies.
