Divorce, Italian Style (İtalyan Usulü Boşanma)

Divorce Italian Style (Divorzio all'italiana) is a 1961 Italian black comedy directed by Pietro Germi, regarded as one of the defining works of the Commedia all'italiana genre. Based on Giovanni Arpino's novel Un delitto d'onore, it follows the impoverished Sicilian nobleman Baron Fefè Cefalù, who, trapped in a loveless marriage in a country where divorce is illegal, schemes to push his wife into adultery so he can kill her and claim a lenient honor-killing sentence, clearing the way to marry his young cousin Angela.

Starring Marcello Mastroianni, Daniela Rocca, Stefania Sandrelli and Lando Buzzanca, the film satirizes the bigoted, patriarchal society of 1960s Sicily. It won the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, with further Oscar nominations for Mastroianni and Germi, took the best comedy prize at the 1962 Cannes Film Festival, and collected two Golden Globes among other honors. In 2008 it was included in Italy's list of 100 films to be saved.
