Goliath and the Vampires

Goliath and the Vampires (original title Maciste contro il vampiro) is a 1961 Italian peplum film directed by Sergio Corbucci and Giacomo Gentilomo. Written by Duccio Tessari and Corbucci, the 105-minute production is set in ancient times and follows the legendary strongman Maciste as he battles a vampire and his henchmen who roam from village to village, enslaving people and abducting young women. Gordon Scott stars in the lead role, alongside Gianna Maria Canale, Jacques Sernas, Leonora Ruffo and Guido Celano.

The film opened in Italy on 21 August 1961. Its American distributor, American International Pictures, felt the name Maciste meant nothing to American audiences and renamed the hero "Goliath" in the dubbed version. Released as Puños de hierro in Spanish-speaking countries and Macistes größtes Abenteuer in Germany, the film is regarded as a notable example of the fantastic peplum subgenre thanks to its blend of adventure and horror elements.
