Destroy All Monsters
Destroy All Monsters (Japanese: Kaijū Sō-shingeki, literally "Monster All-Out Attack") is a 1968 Japanese kaiju and science fiction film directed by Ishirō Honda and produced and distributed by Toho. The ninth entry in the Godzilla franchise, it stars Akira Kubo, Jun Tazaki, Yukiko Kobayashi and Yoshio Tsuchiya, with special effects directed by Sadamasa Arikawa and supervised by Eiji Tsuburaya. The story follows a hostile alien race known as the Kilaaks, who seize control of Earth's giant monsters and unleash them on cities around the world, while authorities struggle to break the aliens' hold and regain control of the creatures.
The film opened theatrically in Japan on August 1, 1968, and reached the United States in an English-dubbed version from American International Pictures on May 23, 1969. Contemporary American reviews were mixed, though the climactic monster battle drew particular praise, and later assessments have grown warmer. It was followed by All Monsters Attack, released on December 20, 1969.
