Carousel (Atlıkarınca) (translated)

Carousel is a 2010 Turkish drama film directed by İlksen Başarır. The screenplay was written by Başarır and actor Mert Fırat; this is their second collaboration following the award-winning *Another Language of Love*. The film stars Nergis Öztürk, Mert Fırat, and Zeynep Oral.

The story follows the silent downfall of a family forced to move from the countryside to Istanbul. Erdem and Sevil change their lives to care for the mother who has suffered a stroke; years later, Sevil, noticing her daughter's withdrawal, begins to uncover a shocking secret hidden within the house. The truths revealed by Erdem's sudden death lead each family member to a painful reckoning they will have to face alone.

The film, which bravely tackles the difficult subject of domestic abuse, won the Best Screenplay award at the 47th Antalya Golden Orange Film Festival, and Zeynep Oral received the Behlül Dal Special Jury Award. The production also received awards at the International Istanbul Film Festival.
