The Horse (At)
The Horse (At) is a 1982 Turkish drama film directed by Ali Özgentürk, with a screenplay by Işıl Özgentürk and music by Okay Temiz. Produced by Asya Film, it depicts the harsh reality of rural-to-urban migration through the story of a father and his young son in Istanbul.
Hüseyin mortgages his village house and comes to Istanbul determined to give his son Ferhat an education. Settling into a lodging house near Süleymaniye that shelters street vendors, he buys a three-wheeled cart with the help of his fellow villager Remzi and starts selling goods. But relentless pressure from municipal inspectors, the condition that only a fatherless child may enter a free boarding school, and the city's closed networks drive him into despair, ending in a fatal stabbing at the market. Genco Erkal stars, alongside Güler Ökten, Macit Koper, and Yaman Okay.
