Ankara Post (Ankara Postası) (translated)

Ankara Postası (The Ankara Post) is a 1929 Turkish silent film directed and scripted by Muhsin Ertuğrul. It was adapted for the screen from François de Curel's 1922 play "Terre Inhumaine," which Reşat Nuri Güntekin had rendered into Turkish under the title "Bir Gece Faciası." In the adaptation, the original story set in Alsace-Lorraine during World War I was transposed to Adapazarı at the height of the Turkish War of Independence.

After shooting six films for Kemal Film between 1921 and 1924, Ertuğrul returned to directing with this production, made together with the brothers Fahir and İhsan İpekçi. The role of Necmiye Sultan was played by the director's wife, Neyyire Neyir. Premiering on 2 October 1929 at Istanbul's Elhamra and Melek cinemas, the film drew fifteen thousand viewers in Istanbul alone, the largest box-office return the country had seen up to that point, and its commercial success encouraged the İpekçi brothers to keep producing domestic films.
