Michael Mendl — Biography
Michael Mendl, born Michael Sandrock on 20 April 1944 in the German town of Lünen, is a busy character actor who has worked across film, television and theatre since the mid-1970s, appearing in well over a hundred productions. He earned international attention playing General Weidling in Downfall, the account of Adolf Hitler's final days, and had earlier featured in Nowhere in Africa, the drama that won an Academy Award after its 2001 release. His television credits include recurring appearances in the long-running crime series Tatort as well as roles in Der Alte, Siska and Donna Leon, and he has also lent his voice to dubbing work. In the 2005 television film Mathilde Liebt he starred alongside Christiane Hörbiger to particular acclaim. He holds the Askania Award and continues to act today.
