Metin Günay — Biography

Diriliş: Ertuğrul and Kuruluş: Osman are the series most closely associated with Hakkı Metin Günay, a Turkish television director. Before them he directed widely watched series such as Deli Yürek and Ekmek Teknesi, and his career behind the camera began in the mid-1990s.

An architecture graduate, Günay entered the industry as an assistant director and actor: in the series Süper Baba (1993) he both acted and worked as assistant director, he also appeared in the film Kapıları Açmak (1992), and he worked as assistant director and art director on Gerilla (1994). His first directing credits were Gurbetçiler and Kralın Hayatı (1996); after Sıcak Saatler, Deli Yürek (1998) and Ekmek Teknesi (2002) brought him to a wide audience. The 2000s added Kasabanın İncisi, Aynalar, Rüzgarlı Bahçe, İki Aile and two seasons of Pars Narkoterör, closing with Evvel Zaman Hikayesi (2011).

The turning point came in 2014 with Diriliş: Ertuğrul, whose four seasons (2014-2017) he directed. He worked as general director on Yunus Emre Aşkın Yolculuğu (2015) and as general coordinator on Yalancısın Sen (2009), and continued with Kuruluş: Osman in 2019. He studied architecture at Yıldız Technical University and lost his father in 2018.
