Gönül Ülkü Özcan — Biography

Emine Gönül Özcan (27 March 1929, İstanbul – 2 November 2016, İstanbul) was a Turkish theater, film and television actress and voice artist.

With her family's support, Gönül Ülkü joined the Children's Section of the İstanbul City Theatres in 1947, at a young age. She worked at the City Theatres until her marriage to Gazanfer Özcan in 1962, after which she founded the Gönül Ülkü – Gazanfer Özcan Theatre together with her husband. She performed at their own theater until she fell ill in 2002. Returning to the stage in 2003, she also appeared in a small number of feature films. In the series Kuruntu Ailesi (1985–1990) she appeared on screen alongside her husband Gazanfer Özcan and his family. In later years the series continued under the titles Hüsnü Bey Amca (1994–1997) and Bizim Kuruntu Ailesi (1997–1998), remaining on air for 13 years. After Kuruntu Ailesi ended on 29 December 1990, Gönül Ülkü and Gazanfer Özcan took part in various different productions. She appeared in the comedy series Ben Olsaydım, broadcast on TRT 1 in 1991, and in the comedy series Burnumu Keser misiniz? in 1992.

The renowned stage actress Gönül Ülkü Özcan died in İstanbul on 2 November 2016 at the age of 87. She was buried in the family plot at Karacaahmet Cemetery.
