Emrah İpek — Biography
Born Emrah Erdoğan İpek in 1971 in the Ergani district of Diyarbakır, the Kurdish-Turkish artist lost his father when he was only a year and a half old. Because of his mother's work, he began primary school in the Gülaman district of Elazığ, where a music teacher noticed his fine voice and quick ear, leading to his first steps in music with an amateur recording. He went on to become one of the best-loved young voices of Turkish arabesk and pop as a child performer.
Alongside his singing career, Emrah built a long acting résumé in film and television spanning from the 1970s into the 2010s, appearing in numerous productions and composing music for several of them. In 2013 he moved behind the camera as well, writing and directing the film Gelmeyen Bahar. In his personal life he married Sibel Kirer, and over the decades he has remained a fixture of Turkish popular culture.
