Demir Gökgöl — Biography
Demir Gökgöl was born in Istanbul on 15 July 1937. He moved to Germany in 1968 and built his acting career there, becoming known as a Turkish-German performer. He reached wider audiences through his roles in director Fatih Akın's films Duvara Karşı (Head-On, 2004) and Aşka Ruhunu Kat (Soul Kitchen, 2009). His filmography also includes 40 Metrekare Almanya, Evet, ich will!, Time You Change, Ayrılık, and Tatort: Leben gegen Leben. By the time he died in Hamburg on 22 March 2012, he had spent several years undergoing treatment for throat cancer.
