Coşkun Göğen — Biography

Coşkun Göğen is one of the busiest character actors of Yeşilçam, and his name is bound up with the villain he played on screen: the character known as "Tecavüzcü Coşkun" became one of the best-known comic types in Turkish cinema. He is credited with more than four hundred films and stage plays. He has lived in Antalya since 1989.

He grew up in Istanbul in a family of Macedonian origin, left middle school and became a barber's apprentice, then turned to dancing and photo-novels. A dance group he joined at seventeen brought him into Yeşilçam, where he began as an extra. First known for a hippie look in photo-novels as "Hippi Coşkun", he later got the "Tecavüzcü Coşkun" nickname for his roles as mob henchman, thief and womaniser; Yanmışım (1979) is cited as the film that fixed the image. Early parts include Asi Gençler (1972) and Kartal Yuvası (1974). At audience demand he repeated the type in later films, and also appeared in Gerzek Şaban, Badi, Kaçak and Vazife Uğruna. Later credits include G.O.R.A., Günah Keçisi and Karımı Gördünüz Mü?, and on television Çocuklar Duymasın, Avrupa Yakası and Tatlı Bela Fadime.

Some sources give his birth year as 1945. He has three daughters, leads the cheering for Antalyaspor in Antalya, and also supports Galatasaray.
