Family Honor (Aile Şerefi) (translated)

Directed by Orhan Aksoy, the 1976 Turkish drama Aile Şerefi (Family Honor) was produced by Arzu Film, with a screenplay by Sadık Şendil, Suphi Tekniker and Aksoy himself.

Rıza is a father who barely supports his wife Adile and their five children by selling mineral water from his horse-drawn cart. Among the children, Selim studies medicine, Hasan works in a factory and Zeynep labors in a garment workshop. When their newly married daughter Ayşe and her street-vendor husband Zihni move in, the strained household budget becomes even tighter. The family is thrown into crisis when Murat, the youngest son who is still in middle school, is struck by a car.

The vehicle belongs to Oktay, the son of a wealthy family, and matters escalate dramatically when he abducts Zeynep. Refusing to surrender their dignity, the impoverished family closes ranks to defend its honor. Münir Özkul plays Rıza.
